Trading Standards (TS) support the marketplace by continuously monitoring new products that come to be sold in the UK and investigating products that are deemed unsafe or are fake or infringing on Intellectual Property Rights.
Unsafe products can be anything that doesn’t follow the legislative standards (as is often seen with fake goods) and/or products that could cause injury to a consumer. We receive a large number of complaints regarding the electrical safety of products, in particular phone chargers and similar electrical goods. When tested, many of the products reported to TS have not met electrical safety standards.
