Trading Standards South West (TSSW) and the 15 South West local authority Trading Standards services that it represents are joining forces and launching a week of action.
The week of action will reveal the work of Trading Standards and raise awareness of issues affecting consumers in the region.
The first of its kind in the South West, the five-day campaign starts on Monday 9 September 2019 and will focus on five different themes that affect the local community.
The five topics are doorstep crime, scams, product safety, fair trading and illegal tobacco. The week will showcase Trading Standards’ efforts to protect consumers in these areas and share vital advice on how members of the public can safeguard themselves.
With all 15 local authorities taking part in the week of action, there will be a variety of events taking place across the region. These will involve local operations to crack down on criminal activities as well as activities to raise awareness among consumers.
Lisa Peters, from Trading Standards South West, said: “The role of Trading Standards is to ensure the safety of consumers and promote the reputation of legitimate businesses. Our officers work tirelessly, often unnoticed, to protect the public by tackling rogue traders and fraudsters.
The awareness we will create by highlighting our work during this week of action will serve to make our efforts more effective.”
